Continuous Execution Control System
It holds two pictures at once: what was supposed to be happening, and what's actually happening. When they start separating, it says so, while there's still time to do something about it.

Nothing fails suddenly. It drifts.
A date moves, then another. A number softens. A dependency slips and nobody escalates it, because individually none of it is worth escalating. An exception happens often enough to stop feeling like an exception. The plan and reality come apart slowly, and every single step is defensible. Then the quarter closes and it looks like something went wrong suddenly.
The gap is measurable long before it's visible.
This is the entire product in one picture. Two lines, and the distance between them at two different moments.
Nothing has been missed at the first marker. Every deadline is still officially on track. A normal report would show green, because a normal report compares against the date rather than against the trajectory.
Same failure, found twice. Once when a gap of eight was cheap to close, and once when a gap of one hundred and forty five was in your numbers and nothing could be done about it.

On track
It's 27 August. Three dependencies are still incomplete, two of them owned by a team that has missed its last two internal dates. Nothing has been missed yet. This launch is already going to slip, and saying so today costs three days instead of a quarter.
Both statements are true on the 27th. Only one of them is useful.
Six stages, and the last one is the unusual part.
- 01 Observe What is actually happening across the business? Guarantee: read from your systems, not from a status meeting.
- 02 Compare How far is that from what was intended? Guarantee: measured against trajectory, not against the due date.
- 03 Detect Is this drift, or is it just noise? Guarantee: variation alone is not an alert. Direction is.
- 04 Escalate Who needs to know, and how serious is it? Guarantee: one deviation to one owner. Never a broadcast.
- 05 Track Did anyone act, and did it help? Guarantee: the deviation stays open while the condition holds.
- 06 Clear Is it genuinely back under control? Guarantee: closes on the condition, or on you accepting the risk.
Returns to observe. Control is not a milestone
Stage six is the one nothing else does. An alert disappearing from a screen is not resolution. A deviation closes when the operating condition has actually come back, or when someone with the standing to do it says out loud that the remaining exposure is acceptable.
What WATCHTOWER doesn't do
- It doesn't send you more notifications. The problem was never a shortage of alerts. Most variation is noise and gets no escalation at all. If it speaks, something is genuinely moving in the wrong direction.
- It isn't a dashboard you have to remember to open. A screen that only tells you something when you go and look at it has the same failure mode as a person who has to remember.
- It doesn't predict the future. It compares two things you already have: what you said would happen, and what is happening. Everything it says is arithmetic, not forecasting.
- It won't let you close an alert to make it go away. A deviation clears when the condition clears, or when you explicitly accept the exposure and your name goes on that.
- It doesn't decide what matters. You set the intended state. It only ever tells you how far from it you currently are.
06 / Status
The earliest of the five.
This page is deliberately short. WATCHTOWER is in design, which means the mechanism above is real thinking and the feature list is not written yet. You're reading everything there honestly is.
What you won't find here is a screenshot of software that doesn't exist. The diagram is a diagram, the loop is a specification, and when there's a product this page will get longer.
